Hunter Campbell’s first introduction to this company was a very business as usual interaction, a medium sized privately owned New Zealand business had a vacancy and Hunter Campbell filled it. From here the relationship progressed at great rates. In the background the business was sold to an overseas private equity firm and the next interaction with Hunter Campbell was a meeting with three partners from the Private Equity firm where Hunter Campbell was positioned as the New Zealand based recruitment partner.
Being a private equity firm they were much more numbers focussed than the New Zealand owned business. The brief was to create an entire finance function that currently didn’t exist, involving hiring 5 – 6 new roles. Included in this brief was “you need to do a really good job as we aren’t here to manage this, you are now an extension of us in New Zealand”.
The initial placements by Hunter Campbell were a CFO and Finance Business Partner, both exceptional talent for the role. Then along came Covid, and like many this business operates in a heavily impacted industry and overnight their strategy had to completely pivot. This meant a commercial restructure and the need to hire a CEO. With the Private Equity owners locked out of New Zealand this responsibility was completely left to Hunter Campbell. Daily phone calls to the UK, a high level of trust and partnership later both a CEO and Head of HR were inducted into the business. Our consultative and partnership approach enabled this business to go from survive to thrive through trying times.
