Hunter Campbell is proud to announce our sponsorship of Coromandel-based triathlete Matt Kerr.
Matt, a 28-year-old PE and Outdoor Education teacher, has had podium finishes in multiple New Zealand sporting events and is aiming to be a professional triathlete within the next two years.
Hunter Campbell Founding Partner Ken Webb says the business is pleased to support an aspiring pro athlete.
“Matt is giving this everything. He’s put things on hold to chase his dream and we think that’s admirable.
“He has some impressive wins under his belt so far and we’re excited to be part of his journey and follow his progress,” Ken says.
Last year Matt was placed 1st in the overall Amateur Section and in his Age Group at the Ironman 70.3 Taupo and 2nd in his Age Group in the Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast.
In January he was awarded Ironman World Gold Status, an accolade only the top 1% of triathletes globally achieve.
In 2019, Matt also placed 1st Overall in the Whitianga Half Marathon and 2nd Overall in the Rotorua Marathon.
This year Matt has an impressive programme in place training for six Ironman events. He has also qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupo in November.
By 2022, he aspires to move to Professional Status and full-time global competition.
Matt says he’s looking forward to a busy and demanding year.
“This year I’ll be training 30 hours a week and I’m aiming to reach World Class status at the international event in Taupo at the end of this year.
“The support of top businesses like Hunter Campbell, alongside my coach Grant Schofield, goes a long way to helping me reach my goals so I’m extremely grateful for the support,” Matt says.
