Our client is a large, well-established New Zealand civil construction business, delivering major projects across the country. With a strong national footprint and a genuine focus on developing its people, this is a business where finance sits close to the operation, not removed from it.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will lead a team of 6 across management accounting, financial accounting, admin and reception, with oversight of AP/AR. You’ll partner closely with operational leaders nationwide, providing the financial insight and reporting rigour that supports major infrastructure delivery. This would be a great opportunity for someone at Assistant Manager level or higher looking to make a move out of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own month end and year end reporting requirements
- Monitor, review and report on financial performance across the business
- Oversee development of operational and capital budgets and forecasts
- Support the Finance Manager on business planning and strategy development
- Analyse trends and provide proactive financial and commercial advice
- Lead, coach and develop a team of 6 direct reports
- Drive process, systems and procedure improvements across the function
- Build business cases to support capital investment decisions
Key Skills & Experience Required:
- CA or CPA qualified with a relevant tertiary qualification
- 3+ years’ management accounting experience; Big 4 background or similar industry/size experience preferred
- Proven people leader, confident coaching and developing a team
- Strong commercial awareness balancing strategic and operational priorities
- Excellent relationship building and stakeholder communication, this is as important as technical depth
- Experience leading process improvement initiatives
- Construction or infrastructure exposure an advantage, not essential
