Description

About the Company:
Our client is a large, well-established New Zealand civil construction business, delivering major projects across the country. With a strong national footprint and a genuine focus on developing its people, this is a business where finance sits close to the operation, not removed from it.

The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will lead a team of 6 across management accounting, financial accounting, admin and reception, with oversight of AP/AR. You’ll partner closely with operational leaders nationwide, providing the financial insight and reporting rigour that supports major infrastructure delivery. This would be a great opportunity for someone at Assistant Manager level or higher looking to make a move out of practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own month end and year end reporting requirements
  • Monitor, review and report on financial performance across the business
  • Oversee development of operational and capital budgets and forecasts
  • Support the Finance Manager on business planning and strategy development
  • Analyse trends and provide proactive financial and commercial advice
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of 6 direct reports
  • Drive process, systems and procedure improvements across the function
  • Build business cases to support capital investment decisions

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • CA or CPA qualified with a relevant tertiary qualification
  • 3+ years’ management accounting experience; Big 4 background or similar industry/size experience preferred
  • Proven people leader, confident coaching and developing a team
  • Strong commercial awareness balancing strategic and operational priorities
  • Excellent relationship building and stakeholder communication, this is as important as technical depth
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives
  • Construction or infrastructure exposure an advantage, not essential

What’s in it for you

This is a rare chance to step into a genuine leadership role with 6 direct reports and real influence over how the finance function operates. You’ll work closely with senior operational leaders across a national business, with your input shaping budgets, forecasts and capital investment decisions. The business invests seriously in its people, and there’s a clear runway to broaden your commercial and business partnering exposure over time.
