Our client is a global timber exporting business, based in Auckland. The timber is sourced from the Central North Island and the Far North of New Zealand, and our client is a committed member of the Forest Stewardship Council, supporting the highest standards of forestry management.
The business works with a range of experienced New Zealand sawmills to support them to grow their export markets. Additionally, our client sources some of their different product offerings from Asia and has robust / quality relationships & consistent supply to keep up with demand.
The acting GM is stepping aside to concentrate on other related business activities within the group, which has resulted in this position becoming available.
The General Manager we are looking for will be able to immediately bond with a tight team who have built a high performing, yet down to earth culture. The role will concentrate on the following areas of the business…
- Sales & Operations management
- Supply Chain management – Pacific Islands Trade Lanes
- People & Performance management
- Financial & IT management (new software implementation)
- Management reporting & documentation
- Strategic planning
- HR Management (there is external support in place when needed)
- Maintenance of team culture
In the first instance, the three key areas which this person will need to focus on are – people & performance management, operations / supply chain and financial management. As alluded to above, the team are very close and have worked together for a long time, hence you will need to get buy in from key stakeholders to have the best chance to succeed.
There is good support from current members of the team in some areas, but in other areas, the staff will be looking for guidance, and a mentor, for situations they haven’t encountered previously. Previous experience in the timber export industry would be very advantageous.
