About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Import Operations Supervisor, this Import Operator (Air & Sea) role is based in Airport Oaks. You will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of both air and sea import operations, ensuring smooth coordination across documentation, compliance, and communication with key stakeholders.
This is a hands-on and varied role that will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys managing end-to-end import processes while delivering exceptional service to customers and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full import process across both air and sea freight, including some air freight.
- Handle all import documentation and compliance requirements in line with New Zealand regulations
- Coordinate with offshore agents to ensure timely and accurate movement of cargo
- Communicate with airlines, shipping lines, and freight stations regarding cargo status, arrivals, and charges
- Liaise with importers, customs brokers, and transport providers to ensure seamless delivery and clearance
- Collaborate with in-house Customs Brokers for documentation and compliance checks
- Maintain accurate records within the company’s freight management systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise throughout the import process
Key Requirements
- Sound knowledge of Incoterms, New Zealand import regulations, and freight forwarding operations across both air and sea
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the New Zealand freight industry
- Proficiency in computer systems; experience with CargoWise is preferred but not essential
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional and customer-focused approach
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and make timely decisions
- Strong problem-solving ability and high attention to detail
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle challenges with professionalism
