The opportunity
The Merchant Settlements Manager leads the Merchant Settlements Team to successfully and consistently deliver the settlements work programme across New Zealand and Australia. The role is crucial for ensuring the timely and accurate payment of acquired transactions to our merchants and protecting the company from financial risk through transaction monitoring.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Manage reconciliation of the Daily Transaction Extract to match amounts receivable from schemes against Smartpay revenue and amounts payable to merchants.
- Manage the daily settlement of amounts payable to merchants.
- Lead and coach the Merchant Settlements Team of 7 effectively, proactively managing performance, and developing capabilities.
- Analyse reports on the acquiring fleet to identify data points of interest and their drivers, performing additional investigation where required.
- Manage balances in settlement accounts and clear surpluses to operating accounts in a timely manner to support effective company cashflow management.
- Manage disputes raised by issuers against merchants.
- Analyse data, including issues and delays, to identify issues and trends that may be negatively impacting customer experience and collaborate with key stakeholders to investigate compliance issues

Your profile
- Either a Qualified Accountant (CA/CPA or equivalent) with leadership experience, looking to pivot into the FinTech/payments space
- Or a proven Settlements or Treasury leader from a similar payments or banking background.
- People leadership experience is key
- Change agent: Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and lead through change.
- Innovative mindset, proactive with a strong focus on process Improvement
