Hunter Campbell is proud to be partnering with Sanford for this integral hire. Sanford (NZX) is one of New Zealand’s oldest companies and while it embraces its 100+ years of heritage, it is a pioneer of sustainability and innovation within the seafood industry. One of New Zealand’s biggest exporters, Sanford delivers fresh and frozen produce to all corners of the globe with the goal of becoming the best seafood company in the world.
Exciting doesn’t even begin to describe this role we’re recruiting for Sanford. We can honestly say this will be one of, if not the most unique manufacturing role taken to market this year.
The role initially involves leadership for their existing Sanford sites (including Enzaq), while construction of their new Blenheim based site is underway. Once the new site is commissioned, the incumbent will take responsibility for site management at the new Sanford Bioactives site, with the goal of turning it in to a world-class innovation hub for marine extracts.
Sanford has been producing a Greenshell mussel powder from a small facility in Blenheim since it purchased nutraceuticals company ENZAQ in 2017. After the new site is built and commissioned, they will have the capability to do a wide range of marine extracts ranging from seaweed, to marine collagen, to fish oil and protein extracts.
The current operation has approx. 20 FTE. The new site will have between 40-65 FTE. Initially this role isn’t going to be operationally focused as there will be a research & development / innovation drive, which in turn will result in operational capability being built up over time.
The new site will mean you will have to lead the recruitment drive for technical and operational staff, supported by Sanford’s HR team. You will then have supervisors for each department reporting into this role, which are yet to be determined, as it’s an ongoing process.
It would be preferable if this person came from a nutraceutical / food / food science background. We need a strong leader, who is firm but fair, and able to make decisions in a timely manner. This role will also require good project management and planning skills as the site build progresses.
What’s in it for you…
A chance to work in a niche market that has exponential growth potential. These are specialist products, with similarities to other food processing and nutraceutical plants, but essentially it’s a new industry. There will be novel processing techniques that will require specialist talent, so the learnings will be ample. This market is constantly changing as research and development uncovers more useful data / insights as to what can be achieved.
This site represents Sanford’s main hub for innovation. There is a strong desire for this to be a world class facility that sets new benchmarks and manufactures specialist products that can’t be done anywhere else in the world. This means we need someone who is able to challenge the status quo, who also has the ability to run a best in class facility.
This is a unique opportunity to influence the performance of one of New Zealand’s most recognisable companies. This is a people-focused business, where company culture is paramount. Therefore you will be surrounded by fantastic colleagues in a supportive environment. There are mentors with a tonne of industry knowledge that can be leaned on for support as this role is very unique. Remuneration will all depend on level of experience.
