An opportunity has arisen for you to join the business in a pivotal role as the Tax & Compliance Lead, which can be based either in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington or Dunedin.
  
  
The Role
As the central tax and overseas compliance expert, you are responsible to ensure all NZ and foreign tax obligations are fulfilled in an accurate and timely manner. This includes liaising with external tax advisors and keeping up to date with all relevant legislative requirements. You will assist the Finance team with ensuring they have appropriate policies, procedures and to minimise tax risk to the Group. You will also assist overseas subsidiaries to ensure they have appropriate financial control and that accurate accounting records are kept.
  
Key Responsibilities

  • Technical tax accounting input including leading tax projects and transfer pricing.
  • Tax business decision support and product queries, including assisting businesses with significant contract reviews to ensure they comply with tax legislation
  • Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of tax compliance activity including preparation of statutory returns including income tax, GST, withholding, FBT and related tax compliance obligations
  • Driving simplification and collaborative process improvement, particularly in the compliance and reporting space.
  • Tax management of subsidiary companies
  • Confidently and professionally articulate tax information to external including advisors, IRD, auditors, and shareholders.
  • Work collaboratively with tax/finance team and across the wider business

  
Skills & Experience

  • Excellent technical accounting and tax knowledge, commercial acumen relevant to the position and a commitment to continuously develop professional knowledge and skills.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of legal and legislative compliance conditions and issues.
  • Track record of ‘can do’, ‘roll-up sleeves’ action and results orientation
  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen and analytical approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • CA, CPA, or equivalent qualification preferred

  
To be considered for this position, you must be an experienced tax accounting professional. You will either have experience in a similar role within large company environments OR you will be a tax professional within a big 4 professional services firm and looking for a move into an internal tax team. For the latter profile, you must be at a manager level or higher.
