What you’ll be doing 

As the Operations Manager, you will be part of the leadership team for the branch and key to the development and execution of the operational strategy, enhancing and optimising performance through the development of high performing teams, and driving a positive and high performing culture. The environment is extremely fast paced with a high number of orders going out of the branch each day to the customers who rely on the team to deliver the right product in full and on time. 

Main Responsibilities 

As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for;

  • Leadership of two shifts which run 24/5 along with a small weekend team.
  • Creating a culture and environment that enables the branch to perform at the highest possible level.
  • Contributing to the shaping of the branch operational vision as part of the leadership team, providing an integrated strategic plan which incorporates all dimensions of people, site and process development.
  • Providing leadership for the operations teams and to put in pathways to aid the teams development.
  • Developing engagement and empowerment at all levels of the operations team-building skills, capability and contribution.

A well established and regarded business who specialise in outsourced warehousing and distribution of some of NZ’s leading brands and products in the FMCG space. 
  
They pride themselves on delivering a quality product and service with an emphasis on safety and customer satisfaction.   

An opportunity has come up for an experienced Operations Manager to lead their team with a key focus around leadership, process and continuous improvement. It is a busy site and there are many opportunities to drive continuous improvement and engagement across all teams. 

The opportunity
 
The Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining an efficient and productive Operations team which ensures the business outcomes are achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner. This role is primarily responsible for workplace health and safety, training and overall operations of the Operations.  
  
The Operations Manager has the responsibility for the effective utilisation of all allocated resources and communicates with and supports DC management in meeting customer objectives, whilst continually looking for opportunities to improve operational effectiveness.
  
The role will take the lead in introducing continuous improvements in processes and equipment within the business and work to ensure maximum efficiencies are achieved to deliver acceptable commercial returns while adhering to all OH&S and legislative requirements.
  
Broadly, the scope of your role will include, though not be limited to:

  • Operations leadership
  • Health & Safety
  • Productivity performance of the Auckland distribution site
  • Quality
  • Resource and labour management
  • Continuous improvement , reviewing technology and options for automation
  • Managing and optimising operational performance and efficiency

This, coupled with your unerring commitment to Best Practice operational management and customer service, will ensure your success in running day-to-day operations whilst also achieving success in improving overall performance and efficiency across the business.

The role requires a hands-on approach. First and foremost this is a people leadership role. As a key member of the business, you can expect to have an interesting and challenging role with lots of variety. You will be working with senior management, operational staff, suppliers and contractors. As such being a people leader is essential and you will enjoy working in a busy role and being able to make a valuable contribution.
  
The salary package reflects the seniority of this position and is negotiable depending on experience.

About the role:

An opportunity has arisen for a contract Operations Manager to join ITW and oversee two warehouses.

Sitting between two sites, this role would see you having two warehouse managers reporting directly to you and 60 indirect staff. With close to 80,000 SKUs across the warehouses, this role will require you to roll up your sleeves and hit the ground running. A fresh set of eyes to improve the H&S and L&D delivered to staff will be welcomed.

This role will be dynamic and ever-changing as the business is currently in the beginning phases of scouting a larger warehouse to relocate to in late 2023. Although you will not be the facilitator of this project, you will be actively involved in gearing the warehouses up for the move as well as being a part of the move. The project manager will need your full support in this.

This role will not see you being accountable for setting budgets however you will need to be number savvy for reporting and will need to ensure that activity is financially viable so that service level agreements with large clients such as Bunnings and Mitre10 can be met.
Although you will not be responsible for the contract in place with the transport providers, you will play a key role in regular liaison and maintaining the relationships with them. In addition to this, you will join the Director of APAC Transport in regular transport provider reviews
