Genuine connection sits at the heart of exceptional recruitment. Few understand this better than Erin, whose unique journey from the courtroom to the boardroom has shaped her approach to recruitment.
Erin’s professional story begins as a lawyer. For seven years, she built her career as a litigator, starting as a crown prosecutor before transitioning to insurance litigation. Her legal career took her across New Zealand and Singapore, honing her ability to navigate complex situations in different jurisdictions.
Erin always found herself drawn to the human element of her work. “I enjoyed the different interactions—the client-facing pieces, rather than diving deep into the academic side of the law behind the scenes”. This realisation sparked a career pivot that would ultimately lead her to recruitment.
The transition from law to recruitment started with Erin working in the Accounting and Finance recruitment team of a large global agency, where she worked her way up to leadership roles. Her career path included a year-long stint as Head of Talent for a tech company, but Erin discovered she thrived on variety. “One client wasn’t enough. I like dealing with lots of different businesses, being able to flex different levels of commerciality,” she explains.
This insight led her to Hunter Campbell almost three years ago, where she was tasked with establishing and growing the marketing and communications division. At Hunter Campbell, Erin found more than just a career opportunity; she found her professional home.
“The exceptional leadership team at Hunter Campbell was a major draw for me,” Erin notes. Through the Hunter Campbell Leadership Programme, she’s continued to refine her own leadership style while appreciating the company’s unique culture.
If you know Erin, you will know that she has an energy about her when it comes to her work. “The satisfaction of seeing a consultant grow and learn and ultimately get really good results gives me fire in my belly,” she shares. There’s a particular thrill in mentoring consultants to reach significant milestones”.
Her background as a lawyer has proven invaluable in recruitment; most importantly, it developed her commercial awareness and problem-solving abilities. “I’ve dealt with really contentious stuff—deep-seated issues and problems—and getting to the bottom of that. At the end of the day, that is recruitment—helping clients get to the end of the problem.”
For Erin, recruitment transcends transaction—it’s about transformation. “The impact I can have on someone’s career journey matters,” Erin says. “Being able to meaningfully help someone move into a role they love is such a great feeling.”
This empathetic approach extends to her attention to detail. “The small things really matter,” she emphasises. “Checking in on a candidate, sending a text before an interview, or even a simple happy birthday message—these little things make a big difference. When someone is unemployed, if there’s any way to bring them joy or make them feel taken care of, that’s really important.”
Clients praise Erin for her responsiveness and tenacity. They value her deep understanding of their needs, thorough updates, and commitment to building enduring relationships. “It’s not just about a meeting,” she explains. “From the moment we start working together, it’s about creating an enduring relationship. I’m not a one-and-done gal.”
Outside of work, Erin enjoys a busy life with her husband and their little ones, Nico and Willa and two hounds. With a busy home, she loves having people over and a good glass of bubbles. She loves to travel with the family, and it’s not uncommon to hear of an upcoming running event she is training for.
