Hunter Campbell has a knack for finding top talent and we are so proud of our sponsorship of triathlete Matt Kerr, who took out a convincing victory at the Ironman 70.3 in Cairns, Australia last week. Not only did Matt win, but he hit the podium 16 minutes before his nearest rival in the competition and recorded the quickest time for the race since 2015.
“Matt is a true example of a Kiwi living out his dreams through a lot of hard work, sacrifice and dedication to make them happen,” says Ken, Founding Partner at Hunter Campbell.
When we last checked in with Matt, he had set a goal for 2022 to have hit Professional Status and full–time global competition – he is already well on his way to achieving this.
In true kiwi style, Matt is very humble about his success, stating “The win was definitely the goal, so we executed that pretty well.” However, the huge amount of preparation that goes into an event like this both prior to and on the competition day is evident. “You have to be smart about nutrition and hydration in conditions like this, you lose fluids quicker so you have to stay on top of that,” says Matt.
Prior to heading across the ditch to Australia Matt raced the Ironman New Zealand, where he broke the amateur course record placing first in the amateur field and 7th overall, with an impressive finish time of 8 hours 27mins.
Over the next few weeks we are going to be catching up with Matt to hear about how he makes time for intense training and work, his preparation and what events he has on the horizon for 2021. So check back in to hear more soon.
