It has been another week where we have seen a steady increase in recruitment activity. A brief update on what has been happening is below.
Accounting and Finance update
A question being asked a lot by candidates is what skills will be in demand in the post COVID-19 market?
It’s a bit tricky to respond to this question with absolute certainty at the moment but what we do know is that Financial Accounting, Financial Controller and IFRS skills are always business critical. We are recruiting a number of these positions currently. In fact, there has been more demand for candidates with strong Financial Control skills than anything else during the pandemic. Many Accounting professionals have their sights set on partnering roles however the technical roles are more consistently sought after, regardless of the economic environment.
As businesses are coming to terms with next steps and analysing their pressure points, we are also seeing moderate demand for talent with broad, wide-ranging Accounting skills to help “wherever is needed”.
With many economists predicting continued increasing levels of unemployment, there will be volatility for some time yet. Despite this, Accounting and Finance demand is steady.
We still have a lot of clients signalling that there will be an initial requirement for Accounting specialists on the contract side before they make longer-term decisions about permanent hires.
Currently we are partnering with businesses within the FMCG, Health, Banking / Financial Services and IT / Technology sectors with interim requirements. Other clients are waiting for confirmation of the move to Alert Level 1 or to assess the impact of the wage subsidy ending before they commit to taking contract roles to market.
There has been a significant spike in interest from senior candidates looking to move into Interim CFO positions. We have a strong pool of immediately available CFO’s from large corporates, SMEs and start-ups who have experience across multiple industries. This is aligned to an increase in queries from businesses going through transformation or restructures who are needing a ‘stand in’ CFO between appointments.
Supply Chain, Operations and Procurement update
It has been another positive week with sentiment picking up.
As a specialist recruiter, we are regularly engaged to recruit roles throughout New Zealand and currently we are looking to fill a role in Dunedin.
In the regions the talent pool can be smaller, so senior positions are often filled by candidates who need to relocate. On the surface, this can appear to add an extra level of challenge to the recruitment process. However, an important component to ensuring a successful hire is checking candidates’ motivation to ensure alignment – is it a lifestyle move? A career move? Or a move to be closer to family?
Some of our most successful appointments have been candidates relocating, either from within New Zealand or overseas. They’ve moved for specific reasons and the organisations have benefited from their expertise and experience.
