An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join a busy payroll team supporting a large and diverse employee base.

The Role
This is a senior, hands-on payroll position where accuracy, efficiency, and leadership are essential. You will play a key role in processing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce while also providing day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior team members.
Key responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end payroll processing for a workforce of approximately 3,000 employees
  • Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time, in line with NZ legislation and company policies
  • Managing complex payroll scenarios including leave, allowances, deductions, and terminations
  • Reconciling payroll, PAYE, KiwiSaver, and other statutory requirements
  • Responding to employee and manager payroll queries
  • Supporting system integrity, audits, and reporting requirements
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Mentoring, training, and providing technical support to junior payroll staff

About You
You’re an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a high-volume environment and enjoys supporting others to succeed.
We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Proven experience processing large, high-volume payrolls (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience in an end-to-end payroll environment
  • The confidence and capability to mentor and support junior team members
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience with large payroll systems and intermediate Excel skills

Experience within a large or complex organisation will be highly regarded.

Payroll Manager

About the Role:

This is a part time role where you will take responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of several payrolls across the organizations’ various business interests.  
The company re also about to implement Payglobal software so you will play a big part in the testing, parallel pay runs and smooth implementation of this.
You will have one direct report who focuses on the day to day processing of several of the payrolls under the company umbrella. 

Key tasks will include 

  • Ensure employee timesheets (leave, overtime allowance, coding) are checked and signed- off by individual’s Department Manager
  • Input timesheet details into system
  • Ensure leave request form is authorized my Department Manager before being recorded and processed in system
  • Check employee leave request matches leave allowance due prior to loading in system
  • Collate information and documentation relating to changes in each weekly and monthly payroll
  • Process payroll accounting entries ensuring tax and kiwi saver requirements are met
  • Address tax, IRD, Department of Courts and Work and Income enquiries as required
  • Produce reports for payroll checking with the CFO
  • Prepare weekly and monthly direct credit payroll payments and process on receipt of authorization from the CFO
  • Prepare and process PAYE payments
  • Generate various reports (termination statistics, annual leave entitlements) and other relevant cost analysis, as required by Senior Management
  • Resolve queries and conduct appropriate audits to ensure data integrity
  • Ensure information provided is 100% accurate at all times

The role will be office based but with a lot of flexibility around hours and start/ finish times to suit you- busiest days are Monday and Tuesday each week as the payroll cut off is Sunday evening.
