An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join a busy payroll team supporting a large and diverse employee base.
The Role
This is a senior, hands-on payroll position where accuracy, efficiency, and leadership are essential. You will play a key role in processing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce while also providing day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior team members.
Key responsibilities include:
- End-to-end payroll processing for a workforce of approximately 3,000 employees
- Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time, in line with NZ legislation and company policies
- Managing complex payroll scenarios including leave, allowances, deductions, and terminations
- Reconciling payroll, PAYE, KiwiSaver, and other statutory requirements
- Responding to employee and manager payroll queries
- Supporting system integrity, audits, and reporting requirements
- Identifying and implementing process improvements
- Mentoring, training, and providing technical support to junior payroll staff
About You
You’re an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a high-volume environment and enjoys supporting others to succeed.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience processing large, high-volume payrolls (essential)
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience in an end-to-end payroll environment
- The confidence and capability to mentor and support junior team members
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience with large payroll systems and intermediate Excel skills
Experience within a large or complex organisation will be highly regarded.
