About the business

Green Gorilla is a 100% Kiwi-owned and operated business with over 200 employees and a team of skilled owner-drivers, providing comprehensive recycling and waste solutions to thousands of businesses, institutions and local authorities.  Operating New Zealand’s largest commercial, industrial, construction, and demolition resource recovery facilities, supported by a growing national network of transfer stations and a fleet of 200 collection vehicles, Green Gorilla is proud to lead the charge toward a circular economy, with infrastructure and ideas that work for people, the planet, and future generations.

With expanding operations across Auckland, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, Green Gorilla partners with councils and major commercial customers to deliver practical, scalable recycling and waste solutions that drive real environmental outcomes.

To support continued growth, improve retention, and lift commercial discipline, Green Gorilla is seeking a National Sales Manager to lead sales performance and strategic accounts nationally.

About the opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role provides end-to-end leadership of Green Gorilla’s national sales, tendering, and key account function.
You will set the national sales strategy, own major tenders and contract renewals, and build a disciplined, high-performing sales operation that balances growth with margin protection and operational feasibility.  While the role has a national remit, the commercial heartland is the Golden Triangle (Auckland-Waikato-Bay of Plenty), where the majority of customers, volume, and leadership presence sit.  This is a senior leadership role for a commercially astute sales leader who thrives in complex, contract-driven environments and works closely with Operations to ensure a seamless journey from bid to delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • National sales strategy & leadership – Set and execute national sales strategy aligned to business objectives. Lead and coach Regional Sales Managers and BDMs, establishing clear targets, cadence, and performance standards.
  • Major tenders & contract renewals – Own the full tender and renewal lifecycle from opportunity qualification and bid strategy through to pricing, governance, and submission leadership. Improve win rates while protecting margin and delivery capability.
  • Key account retention & growth – Establish a robust national key account framework, including account planning and QBRs. Build senior relationships with councils and large corporates, reducing churn and strengthening renewal pipelines.
  • Sales discipline & reporting – Embed strong CRM usage, pipeline hygiene, and forecasting accuracy. Provide national visibility on pipeline health, win/loss insights, renewal risk, and performance.

Cross-functional partnership – Partner closely with Operations to ensure bids are scalable, profitable, and deliverable. Lead smooth handover from sales to delivery and contribute commercial insight at ELT level on growth and market positioning.

Key attributes

You will be a confident, credible sales leader with a proven track record of winning and retaining large contracts in service-based or contract-driven environments.  You’ll bring:

  • Senior national or enterprise B2B sales leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leading major tenders and renewals
  • Strong commercial acumen across pricing, margin, and cost-to-serve
  • Experience leading multi-region sales or key account teams
  • A disciplined, data-led approach to pipeline management and forecasting
  • Experience in waste & recycling or adjacent sectors will be highly regarded (infrastructure, logistics, facilities, utilities, industrial services)
  • Exposure to council or public sector tenders
  • Experience selling operationally complex, multi-site services
  • Alignment with sustainability and waste diversion led proposition

What’s in it for you?

This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a national sales function in a purpose-led New Zealand business. You’ll have real influence over growth, retention, and how Green Gorilla wins and delivers its largest contracts.  This role offers genuine impact for a calm, commercially sharp leader who can operate confidently from customer boardroom to executive table, setting direction, holding standards, and building trust across the business.
